ASSISI: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ST. FRANCIS

Assisi bears witness to the presence of Saint Francis in many ways.
The small Medieval houses, it strees and the the colour of its buildings remind us of the time when the young man learnt how to be a rich merchant but the outstinding frescoes inside the Saint’s Basilica recall his life using the new language of modernity hence paving the way to the Renaissance. His message though is evoked by the small church of St. Steven as well as the simplicity of St. Damian and the landscape with olive trees which surround the town just outside the Medieval walls. The message of the most famous citizen of Assisi has changed the art, litterature as well as the then and present church and it is still valid from people from all over the world, no matter what religion or faith they belonged to.
