The origins of the Race of the Ceri are intertwined with the creation of ancient Gubbio, expressing in spectacular forms the city’s sense of belonging.

Along a thousand-year path, this event has been able to accompany the history of the city and is renewed every year with extraordinary passion, in a triumph of color and animation.

The three wooden machines, the Ceri, are carried through the city, only to be led back in a mad dash to the top of the mountain where the shrine of St. Ubaldo, the city’s patron saint, is located.

Attending the festival is undoubtedly a unique thrill, but it is also an opportunity to discover the city of Gubbio, just by following the route of the race, through the characteristic medieval quarters to the Piazza Grande, which with its scenic architecture is the centerpiece of the event.

It is here that one can look forward to the spectacular moment of the presentation of the Ceri, when these imposing wooden machines are raised among the crowd of ceraioli.

In the afternoon, the race of the Ceri moves into its final moment, when they are led back to the top of Mount Ingino, inside the Basilica of St. Ubaldo.
