San Felice di Narco: Black River and the Benedictines, a story of swamps to be restored and souls to be saved.

Located along the banks of the Nera River, the abbey of San Felice di Narco represents one of the most beautiful and significant examples of the extraordinary work of the Benedictines in Umbria.

St. Felix slaying the dragon on the facade of the Romanesque church is symbolic of the monks’ physical efforts to control the Nera River (the dragon) by damming its banks. But it also represents that work of evangelization for a real spiritual “reclamation.”
