Cascia, Story of Rita. The extraordinary life of a woman capable of transforming deadly hatred into Christian love.

Visiting Cascia means retracing the places of St. Rita’s life, reliving the miracles and personal history of a saint.

She was not only a witness to the Passion of Christ, but also a wife, mother and woman of her time.

However, a visit to the monastery, sanctuary and nearby Roccaporena does not exhaust all that Cascia has to offer.

The 15th-century frescoes in the museum-church of St. Anthony Abbot are a small jewel of late Gothic art that take visitors back to the enchanted atmosphere of a Middle Ages at once cruel and magical.

  • Collegiate church of Santa Maria with the baptismal font of Santa Rita.
  • Basilica of Saint Rita with the crystal urn with the Saint’s body inside.
  • Monastery of St. Rita, where places and objects related to St. Rita’s experience of religious life are preserved.
  • Church of St. Anthony, church-museum with interesting frescoes.
  • Civic Museum in the Santi Palace.

Roccaporena is located 5.5 km from Cascia and is the birthplace of Saint Rita.

Here it is possible to visit the places where the saint lived before her husband’s death: the house where she was born, her husband’s house, the lazaretto, the church of San Montano, and especially the miracle garden and the prayer rock.
