This guided tour along one of Perugia ‘s Royal Ways is presented as an exciting “journey” back in time to reveal a millennia-old history that is, in fact, yet to be told.

A story that moves between the mysteries of the Etruscan city and the events of the presence of the Templars in this area, to the refinements of the early twentieth century.

The landscape that frames this particular itinerary on Perugia is one of the most picturesque in the city: green hills of olive trees and cultivated fields just behind the medieval walls.

The starting point of the itinerary is Perugia’s Monumental Cemetery. Here, in the stillness of the city of the dead, there is a direct echo of that of the living, with its restlessness and turbulence: elegant chapels and funerary monuments by the most important artists of the time, inspired by the fashions of the time, from Verism to Art Nouveau, Deco to Expressionism.

This will be followed by a visit to the Church of San Bevignate with one of the most impressive fresco cycles in the city’s history. Indeed, these truly unique paintings celebrate the exploits of the Knights Templar, whose events, sometimes still difficult to decipher, exert an undisputed fascination.

The last stage of our excursion aims to rediscover one of the most beautiful and well-known monumental Etruscan tombs: theVolumni Hypogeum. Built and sculpted in imitation of an elegant dwelling, it will be an opportunity for a visit inside the Palazzone necropolis.
