Guided tour of Lake Trasimeno like a crown with its pearls

Waters with shades of green and blue, surrounded by gentle hills covered with silver-green olive trees, along with the special glow at sunset and the glittering lake in the sunshine, would be enough to visit this area of Umbria. However, Lake Trasimeno has much more to offer.

Isola Maggiore, with its fisherman village and country paths amid olive groves, is the spot where St. Francis spent the 40 days of fasting before Easter. It can be easily reached after a short and pleasant ferry ride.

All around the lake, the five villages that overlook it are unique. Take your time for a visit to Castiglione del Lago, the largest village of the area with its magnificent and totally frescoed Palazzo della Corgna, along with the castle that gives the name to the village.

Proceed to the wonderful walled hamlet of Panicale and its stunning fresco by Perugino, as well as its perfectly preserved medieval layout. Stop and eat some of the typical dishes of the lake, or just sit to taste the delicate olive oil produced here and the fagiolina, a local variety of black-eyed beans.

Go ahead to the Castle of the Malta Knights near Magione, or reach the lakeside of Passignano with its pleasant cafes overlooking the lake and its islands. Continue to Tuoro, the place where Hannibal defeated the Romans, and you will soon fall under the spell of this lake.
