Even today the feast of Corpus Christi is celebrated in Orvieto with a pompous and colorful historical re-enactment in memory of the fact that it was in this very city that it was instituted in 1264 by Pope Urban IV, a seal to the exceptional event of the miracle of Bolsena whose most important relic, the corporal, is in fact kept inside the city’s marvelous cathedral.
The religious procession parades along with one of the most beautiful historical processions in Italy where the medieval town magistracies with the coats of arms and arms of the noble Orvieto families stand out.
The setting of the event is Orvieto itself with the majesty of its monuments and the charm of its ancient streets.
