Assisi bears witness to the presence of Saint Francis in many ways.
The small medieval houses, its streets and the colour of its buildings remind us of the time when the young man learnt how to be a rich merchant. The outstanding frescoes inside the Saint’s Basilica recall his life using the new language of modernity, hence paving the way to the Renaissance.
His message is evoked by the small church of St. Steven, as well as the simplicity of St. Damian and the landscape with olive trees which surround the town just outside the medieval walls.
The message of the most famous citizen of Assisi has changed art and literature, as well as the church of that time and the present one. It is still valid for people from all over the world, no matter what religion or faith they belong to.
