In Umbria, the greatest pleasure is to make your vacation an opportunity to discover the grace of small, hidden villages, perfectly integrated into a dreamlike landscape.

This is the case of ancient Bettona, the only example of an Etruscan center located beyond the Tiber River, and thus in “Umbrian” territory.

The Tiber, in fact, was the natural border between the peoples ofEtruria and those of Umbria proper: Bettona constituted a kind of bridgehead that looked out from the territory of Perugia to control towards the plain of Assisi.

Still enclosed within its majestic ancient walls, this village thus dominates the vast panorama of the celebrated Umbrian Valley from above.

From the village, perched on the top of the hill, a pleasant walk among the olive trees descends in the direction of an impressive Etruscan tomb with a beautiful barrel vault perfectly constructed of large blocks of local sandstone mounted dry.

To this splendid example of Etruscan mastery in architectural achievements can be added a visit to the small and interesting museum of Bettona, which, with its ancient artifacts, allows us to reconstruct the important role played by this town along the ancient route of the Via Amerina.
