{"id":4052,"date":"2013-01-26T15:47:03","date_gmt":"2013-01-26T14:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticainumbria.com\/visite-guidate\/guided-tour-archaeological-itinerary-in-assisi\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T12:03:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T10:03:53","slug":"guided-tour-archaeological-itinerary-in-assisi","status":"publish","type":"tour","link":"https:\/\/www.guidaturisticainumbria.com\/en\/guided-tours\/guided-tour-archaeological-itinerary-in-assisi\/","title":{"rendered":"Guided tour: archaeological itinerary in Assisi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <strong>City Sacred to the Waters<\/strong>: the Umbrian and Roman Assisi was a city sacred to the waters and dedicated, according to some of the most recent studies to the worship of the Dioscuri.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An archaeological tour within the city is an opportunity to rediscover important remains of the ancient city not all of which are visible, such as the Roman temple in Town Hall Square.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A visit, then, to find the traces of the<strong>amphitheater<\/strong>, the<strong>area of the so-called Forum<\/strong> under the town square, and above all, hidden in the basement of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Roman house so-called of Propertius, famous for the refinement of its frescoes and marble inlays and not normally accessible.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Area of the so-called Forum<\/strong> with Roman remains under the Town Hall Square*.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cathedral of San Rufino<\/strong> with terraced walls and monumental cistern under the bell tower.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amphitheater area<\/strong> with the aquarium alley, along the route of the ancient aqueduct of Sant&#8217;Angelo di Panzo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remains of the Roman house in the basement of the Church of <strong>St. Mary Major*<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>* Entrance to the spaces of the so-called Forum is chargeable.
