It is with the mind and especially the heart turned to the beautiful season that I thought I would share with you some thoughts about Assisi, and since it will be one of the most popular destinations, I invite you to take the time to discover this true wonder.
Assisi is the city of St. Francis, and a visit to the Basilica dedicated to the saint, decorated by the greatest masters of the Middle Ages, is not to be missed: from all over Europe and the great capitals of Italian art, artists competed to create one of the most complex and extraordinary iconographic programs in history.
Giotto, Simone Martini, Lorenzetti to name the best known … but I assure you that entering the interior of the architectural complex of the Basilica of St. Francis is an exhilarating experience that goes straight to the heart despite the centuries that have passed.

However, don’t stop at the best-known routes, but delve deeper to discover a UNESCO World Heritage city that rewards every second you choose to spend within it with corners of incomparable beauty, ancient churches and the supreme elegance of the built-up area in perfect harmony with a sweet nature. From the Cathedral of San Rufino with its finely crafted Romanesque facade, moreover, begins a journey through the underground city that reveals a distant history that from the Umbrians and Romans goes all the way back to the first centuries of Christianity. The remains of the so-called Forum, buried beneath the Town Hall Square, and Roman domus with frescoes and finely inlaid floors are just some of the surprises awaiting you.

Assisi, moreover, placed as it is in the heart of the Umbrian Valley, can be an opportunity to explore one of the region’s most celebrated territories, because of the perfect balance and harmony there between the beauty of its villages, towns and a dreamy landscape.

Spoleto, Montefalco, Bevagna and Foligno and all around the fertile lands of Sagrantino: olive groves and vineyards lying on the gentle undulations of the hills.

Please feel free to contact me for more details and advice on how to make the most of your stay in Umbria.

We are at the height of winter and cold and frost are forcing us indoors-it is the perfect time to plan our first spring outings.
